Business Case Development
For many organizations, a business case is required prior to investing or undertaking a project or capital investment. It outlines the project or investments’ link to strategy s or business need, the required resources, and the estimated costs and benefits.
Acton can help organizations build a concrete business case to demonstrate a project’s viability, identify and address issues, develop and compare economic and organizational impact of alternative solutions, and road map the implementation of a solution. We have formally assessed dozens of public and private sector opportunities over the past decade and assisted in securing over $1 billion in funding for these initiatives.
Sample Acton Experience:
Alberta Government Ministry
Working with an Alberta Government Ministry, Acton helped to develop an in-depth business plan improve current processes and execution of specific programs offered to Alberta citizens. In order to develop the business case Acton outlined goals, timelines and various roles for the two project teams. An in-depth review of related documents as well as obtaining information from other jurisdictions regarding such processes and programs was also undertaken.
A series of workshops were conducted to help further research and develop and evaluate various alternatives. The alternatives were then evaluated based on collected data and a detailed set of recommendations were created. Acton then coached the Department staff on the development of a presentation that was suitable for the Minister’s $280 million dollar request to Cabinet. Finally, Acton worked with Department staff to create an implementation plan to ensure a smooth and rapid transition for the chosen alternatives.
Alberta Government Ministry
Acton was contracted by a large Alberta Government Ministry to develop a business case that could be used to justify decisions to contract staff externally or hire additional staff internally. Acton interviewed individuals within the Ministry to identify requirements for the branch. These were used to tailor an extensive business case that would meet the Ministry’s specific needs.
Acton has developed a guide to illustrate how our business case methodology is performed, the CLEAR Business Case Methodology.
