Business Process Redesign

Business Process Redesign examines fundamental organizational processes and develops strategies to improve their efficiency. Key areas for improvement are defined, and a plan is formulated for improvement. Business Process Redesign can save businesses money and improve efficiencies by accelerating slow processes, eliminating inefficiencies, improving productivity and controlling costs. Direct benefits of a business process redesign can include increased market share and productivity, greater customer and employee satisfaction, and increased profits.

Sample Acton Experience:

Government Ministry

Acton was brought in to assist a Ministry to complete an extensive redesign project. Acton conducted a thorough review of processes, practices, systems and policies within the entity and extracted a number of themes and trends to provide an overview of the current state. From the development of the current state, Acton devised a set of recommendations to improve efficiency and reduce costs. We were then able to provide a vision for the future for the Ministry, as well as potential cost savings that this process redesign could deliver. Cost savings were identified in the following areas: reduction of duplicate systems, efficiency of processes, reallocation of human resources, enterprise wide training, support and knowledge sharing and recruitment and retention of department staff.

Finally, a future state model was developed that identifies key actions necessary to achieve operations cost reductions over the next several years.

Government Ministry

Acton government Ministry in redefining their action request (AR) process as it was not very distinct or well understood. Problems arose in the flow of information within the department leading to confusion among its members. A review of the AR process was completed to improve how the Ministry managed action requests.

Specifically, this entailed:

  • Mapping the current process with staff
  • Identifying inefficiencies and other issues
  • Analyzing data (e.g. volume of ARs and on-time percentages)
  • Developing an efficient and understandable process
