The KM Network began in the spring of 2001 as a group of people in the Edmonton area (Alberta, Canada) who were interested in Knowledge Management. It has grown into a forum where we share what we are doing, what we are learning and processes and tools that we find work in our Knowledge Management initiatives.
We have lunch time meetings about every four weeks. A member volunteers to share their war story or learning for half an hour and then the discussion rolls. Since Knowledge Management is relatively new in our organizations, finding people in similar circumstances is helpful as we mutually learn from and teach each other.
In Knowledge Management terms, we would be a Community of Practice.
The KM Network spans private industry (including some of Edmonton's leading engineering firms), government, the university and consultants. The technical background of members and the disciplines we serve are just as diverse.
The KM Network has evolved to the point where we organized two conferences. The first in 2003 with two world class leaders in Knowledge Management, David Snowden and Hubert Saint-Onge, each making keynote presentations; the second in 2005 with French Caldwell from Gartner Group and the Office of the Auditor General of Canada making keynote presentations.
