Award for a Knowledge Pyramid website
Award for a Knowledge Pyramid website

Exactly a year after launching a new website directed to prairie cow-calf and forage producers, Foragebeef.ca, the team that built the content and the website are off to Winnipeg. They are receiving a Gold Harvest Award from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Dec. 13, 2004

The team includes staff from Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (AAFRD), Agriculture and Agrifood Canada, Saskatchewan Agriculture, Food and Rural Revitalization, Manitoba Agriculture and Food and industry sponsorship.

Foragebeef.ca is a unique approach to developing and organizing information for the industry and industry researchers to use. The website provides three levels of information. The top level is "cut to the core" information on a particular topic. Called "Knowledge Nuggets", this level provides the most important pieces of advice on that topic. The next level is for the reader who wants more information about that topic. Links are provided to the best related information, usually in fact sheet format. The objective is to select the most comprehensive and applicable information to western Canadian agriculture. The third level is for people who want related, in-depth information. This level focuses on related scientific review papers, research abstracts, research papers, major publications and links to research communities through out Canada and the world. This level will become the storehouse for the research community.

Ron Weisenburger, now retired as Chief Knowledge Officer, AAFRD, served as the knowledge management advisor to the team building the structure and information in the website. His influence is seen in the use of the "Knowledge Pyramid" described above.
